One night after attending a full day convention in New Orleans Marriott Hotel, me and my fellow headed to Bourbon street for some refreshments. It was nights before Halloween day, made everything crazier than it already was. The road was closed because there was too much people on the sidewalk and street performances took place in the middle of the road. One of the street performances made me stop walking.
It was an African - American group wearing white clothes performing a modern dance mixed with break dance. The audience seemed to enjoy the performance until one of the men stopped the music.
"Hey..yo your money will keep us away from two things. The homeless shelter and your house." He said.
The crowd laughed out loud , thinking it was a funny joke and started throwing dollars. Everyone was happy and they continued as the night was still young.

The city, New Orleans was at one time the largest slaves market in the country. That is one of the things that was surprised me, of how big the African-American population over there was. If I am used to the Hispanic population back in Arizona, in here I can find African-American in every corner of New Orleans.
The French called New Orleans the 46th largest city in USA as La Nouvelle-Orleans. Americans call it The Big Easy or N'awlins. In this city that never sleeps, or at least made my friend and me didn't sleep, here are the top 4 places you should not missed :
New Orleans, Louisiana |
1. Bourbon street
I think New Orleans get a title of "the city that never sleeps" from Bourbon Street because this is a particular place for drinking and party persons. I'm not that type of person, but watching people got drunk and threw up might be the precious experience I want to embrace. While walking in the street passing houses that have two stories, I looked up and saw some people called from upstairs and tried to encourage girls who were walking in the street to open their shirt showing their boobs. If you do that, you can get free colorful necklace made in China. Are you brave enough?
2. French Quarter
It is well known as the birthplace of Jazz. In this oldest neighborhood of New Orleans, you can easily find pubs with many great musician and people waiting in line even before the sun disappear. For the music lover, you really belong to this place. And for the food lover, you should never ever miss to try sugar-dusted, doughy beignets from Cafe du Monde. Just a tips, don't think about eating in the place, just take it away and enjoy to eat it in Jackson Square. It is worth 15 minutes than being stuck in never ending line.

3. Jackson Square
It is located in the heart of French Quarter. This historic place is facing Missisipi river and it is the place where I first saw banana tree in USA. I was so surprised and it was located in front of St. Louis Cathedral. Another attraction for me was seeing many local artists hang their paintings in the iron fence around this area, drew people on the spot, tarot players and palm readers showing off their talent.
St. Louis Cathedral Jackson Square |
This iconic river is the fourth longest river in the world (3,710 miles/5,970km). Enjoy the chilly day by walking in the river bank or chill down taking cruise along the river by steamboat.
